Project acronym: BioCog

Project full title: "Biomarker Development for Postoperative
Cognitive Impairment in the Elderly"

Work packages

dot

Work Package 1: Clinical Study
This work package is aimed at collecting clinical/neuropsychological data of surgical patients with and without POD/POCD. This data will be the clinical basis for testing predictive biomarker panels.

dot

Work package 2: Neuroimaging Biomarkers
The objective of this WP is to identify, establish and develop a multivariate neuroimaging-based biomarker classifier for POD/POCD prediction, and to characterise relevant brain circuits.

dot

Work package 3: Molecular Biomarkers
Within this WP the consortium will identify, establish and develop a multivariate molecular biomarker classifier for POD/POCD outcome prediction and also create a Biobank.

dot

Work package 4: Bioinformatics
A multivariate expert system (based on neuroimaging and molecular biomarkers) will be constructed, using the clinical/biomarker data generated by the study. A knowledge map will be built combining network analysis with structural analysis to dissect molecular pathways involved in POD/POCD and associated neuroimaging measures.

dot

Work package 5: Project management
WP5 will ensure efficient operational management including that of administrative, financial and legal issues.

dot

Work package 6: Dissemination and Exploitation
Main tasks will include the disseminating of project findings to the scientific community and general public and to support the exploitation of project results. Project partners will be supported to: i) formally analyse risks and alternatives; ii) estimate potential revenue and expenses and iii) identify resources and tasks necessary to implement the project research activities. Commercialization of project products by SME’s will be supported by the whole BioCog consortium.
